So, grab your clubs, polish your shoes and pick up some USA travel insurance to cover you for your trip. You might also want to see what other activities are available near these fantastic courses. Some of them have on-site restaurants or are associated with luxury hotels.
Farmingdale, New York
Beth Page State Park Golf Course is the number 1 US golf course in our top ten and it has hosted the US Open Championship for years. This is a club of professional standard, a course where Tiger Woods and Lucas Glover have won Open Championships and a breathtaking club at which to play a few rounds.
Clementon, New Jersey
Pine Valley Golf Club is worth a visit for anyone who is in the New Jersey area and loves to play golf. It was designed by George Crump who died before the course was completed and is considered to be the pinnacle of good course design. After opening in 1919 it took three years for anyone to get 70 strokes which resulted in the club becoming known as the toughest test for a golfer.
Seattle, Washington
Jefferson Park Golf Course is number three in our top ten and is another course that serious golfers love to play. It was opened in 1915 by Thomas Bendelow, a Scottish golf architect famous for several other courses. The club hosts an Executive course, a driving range and tuition options are available as well as a high class restaurant.
Augusta, Georgia
Augusta National Golf Club is a course with history. It opened for play in 1933 and has been used for the Masters tournament since 1934. It's famous for a number of features including Ike's pond, Rae's creek and the Eisenhower tree.
Pebble Beach, California
Pebble Beach hosts two of the top ten US golf courses. The Cypress Point Club is famous for its myths and legends one of which involves JFK being refused entry to its restaurant. This is a practically impossible course to play because it's so exclusive and there are only 250 members. Pebble Beach Golf Club meanwhile, is host to the 2010 open and is far more accessible to visiting golfers. Seeing both these courses is easy with a package deal for Pebble Beach which you can purchase online. Alternatively you can arrange your own accommodation, travel and of course USA travel insurance.
Jersey City, New Jersey
Liberty National is the home of the Barclays competition and is known for its hybrid grass and close proximity to the Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty. The course has a mile long waterfront and a contemporary clubhouse. It's chic, modern, challenging and majestic. Its proximity to New York is also an attraction for any members of your party who may not share your level of enthusiasm for the fairway!
Weston, Massachusetts
The Leo J. Martin Memorial Golf Course is famously difficult. The course was designed by Donald J. Ross and opened in 1930. Tee times are first come first served and this is the sort of course at which anyone can get a game if they try hard enough. The course is 18-hole and there's driving range, putting green and pro shop.
Charlotte, North Carolina
The Quail Hollow Club is a course with character and is home to The Quail Hollow Championship. Tee times are not available to the public but this is a great place to watch a championship. There are lots of other courses in the area, however, inspired by The Quail Hollow's stunning architecture.
Las Vegas, Nevada
The Wynn Golf Club was designed by Tom Fazio and Steve Wynn. Fairways at the course are contoured and 50 year old trees add interest with streams and water features. It has hosted PGA and LGPA tour events for the past 50 years. The course is carefully crafted, demanding strategic play.
Wherever you decide to visit in our list of the top ten US golf courses, make sure that you have USA travel insurance cover as many policies are limited in terms of country cover. Other than that, its a case of checking the weather and enjoying your game. Do remember that even a USA travel insurance policy may have single item limits or restrictions in regard to the item types covered so you will need to confirm that your clubs (if you are taking them) are fully covered.
