Australia has a total of 62 wine regions. The most famous is The Barossa Valley. This region contains many old vines that have been producing top quality wines for generations. Many wines that have made their names across the world such as Jacob's Creek and Penfold's originate from here.

Despite the fact that the region is so well known, it is not frequented by the number of tourists it deserves. The local area is mostly rural with a focus on tradition. The Barossa Valley is unspoilt and an ideal place to visit to experience the real Australia. The Barossa Valley is most famous for its Shiraz, with wines known across the world. A trip to this region to taste its delights is something you must do on any trip to Australia. Make sure you prepare for the trip by swotting up on the most highly regarded wine cellars. You should also ensure that you wear sun block, sunglasses and a sun hat when out on the vineyards to prevent sunstroke and sunburn; the sun here can be really fierce. You should also make sure you have organised suitable single trip travel insurance.

Another highly regarded region is the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. The Hunter Valley is perhaps best known for producing a varietal of Semillion. This varietal has low alcohol levels and is typically dry. However, it also produces some fabulous Chardonnay. This wine region is easily accessible to tourists thanks to its relative proximity to Sydney. A trip to the Hunter Valley is not only interesting for wine lovers, but makes a perfect setting for anyone looking for a romantic trip. The scenery of the valley is stunning. In addition to the Hunter Valley, New South Wales is home to 12 other wine regions. These can be further explored on a tour around the area.

South Australia is responsible for more than half of the country's total wine production. Of all the regions in South Australia, Clare Valley is the most prominent. The region is often overshadowed by the famous Barossa Valley region which lies close to it. However, Clare Valley has its own merits, in particular, its varietal of Reisling. This is said to be the best in the country which is reflected in higher prices. Clare Valley has a great deal of history that makes its wines even more interesting. Wine production began here back in the 1800s and has dominated the local landscape and lifestyle ever since.

The wineries themselves are quaint and attractive places to visit. Clare Valley is an ideal place in which to spend a long weekend or possibly a romantic week away. Workers in Clare Valley are hardworking and are representative of Australian lifestyles in this region. The region offers sports activities, biking and skating although do ensure that any potentially dangerous outdoor activities you take part in on your stay are also covered under your single trip travel insurance.

For many, Tasmania is not immediately associated with wine production. However, Tasmania is producing some high quality wines that deserve plenty of recognition. Although the island and its market are small, it has managed to produce some internationally renowned wines, in particular, sparkling wine and Pinot Noir. However, it also produces some excellent Chardonnay, Reisling, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The climate in Tasmania is not far removed from that in traditional European wine producing countries. Tasmania has fairly mild summers, this means that the grapes ripen slowly. The history of wine production in Tasmania is also significant. Wine was first produced here back in the 19th century. In recent years Tasmania has won numerous medals in international wine competitions and critics have been extremely complimentary about its output.

Tasmania is also experiencing a burgeoning trade in wine tourism. You can now visit one or more of Tasmania's wine regions either independently or on a tour. Tasmania also holds many events throughout the year to celebrate its wine and food culture. One of the highlights of the calendar is the Royal Hobart Wine Show. Other events include Southern Vineyards Open Weekend and Festivale in City Park. Wine enthusiasts should ideally time their visit to Tasmania to coincide with one of its well known wine festivals.
